The Magazine of Santa Clarita is proud to feature on our cover the SCV Charity Chili Cook-off leaders: Co-Chair Nicole Stinson, Co-Chair Phillis Stacy-Brooks and Chef Jimmy.
Our Santa Clarita Valley is a great place to live and work for so many reasons.  We are a safe, modern and, most importantly, philanthropic city.  More than 300 non-profits reside in our valley and are supported by our community.  Volunteers, professional organizations and yearly events help sustain our non-profits whose goal is to assist those in need.
More than 1,400 chili enthusiasts attended the 3rd Annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-off to taste great chili, have a blast and support an amazing group of non-profits.  The event was a huge success, bringing in approximately $30,000.

The 4th Annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-off is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 and will be held at Wolf Creek Brewery, which is a new venue this year!  We are grateful for the wonderful support Wolf Creek is providing the event.

Two Santa Clarita Valley non-profits have been selected as this year’s beneficiaries!

Single Mothers Outreach
Single Mothers Outreach empowers single parents and their children by providing hope, support and resources so families can become self-sustaining.
Their dream is to start small businesses that employ our single parents, many of them with employment challenges due to the effects of domestic violence or families who struggle with disabilities (either their own or their child’s).  They also seek organizational sustainability.
They believe when you strengthen a family, you strengthen the community; when you strengthen the community, you strengthen the nation.

The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry
The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry was established in 1986 with the mission to alleviate hunger throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  On the first day of operation, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry had one item in stock: a bottle of cooking oil that was shared between two client families.  In 2010, the SCV Food Pantry distributed more than $1.3 million worth of food – approximately 2,000 pounds each day of operation to those less fortunate in our community.
Food distribution by the SCV Food Pantry is on a short-term, supplemental need basis without regard to the applicant’s religion, ethnicity, race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
